This CD features masterpieces by Ludwig van Beethoven, a titan of classical music. The included Leonore Overture No. 3 is one of his most popular overtures, masterfully depicting dramatic development and triumphant joy. The main piece, Piano Concerto No. 5 Emperor, lives up to its name with its majestic grandeur, brilliant piano technique, and the profound spirituality of the second movement, making it a supreme masterpiece among concertos.

The performance is a legendary recording by Wilhelm Backhaus, one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century, and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra led by the master conductor Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt. Backhaus's playing, while characterized by a solid and unadorned style, perfectly harmonizes with the rich and traditional sound of the Vienna Philharmonic. His noble and powerful touch, especially in the Emperor, is a supreme artistry only achievable by him, known as the Lion King of the Keyboard. Experience a monumental performance that delves into the essence of Beethoven, accompanied by the weighty yet elegant sound of the Vienna Philharmonic in its golden age.
