This is a home video game console released by Microsoft in 2001 in the United States and in 2002 in Japan, Europe, Australia, and South Korea.

The Xbox is a home video game console developed and sold by Microsoft. It is often written as Xbox in lowercase, but the logo and other markings are written as XBOX in all uppercase. It may be referred to as First Xbox or similar to distinguish it from other Xbox hardware.

At the time of its release, Xbox referred to a fixed game platform, but it later expanded to become a game-centric service platform, such as the entertainment brand in Windows 8 and Xbox Play Anywhere in Windows 10. For information on the brand, please refer to Xbox.

Cumulative worldwide sales were slightly higher than the Nintendo GameCube, and it captured the second-largest market share after the PlayStation 2 (hereinafter referred to as PS2) in regions outside of Japan, including North America. Ultimately, it recorded sales of 470,000 units in Japan and 24 million units worldwide.
