Description
This is a vintage Middle Eastern or Persian wooden jewelry/trinket box featuring intricate micro-mosaic marquetry inlay. The technique is known as Khatam or Khatam Kari, an ancient Persian art form. The geometric patterns are created using numerous micro-pieces of wood, bone, and potentially mother-of-pearl. Measures approximately 6” x 5” by one and a half inches and the inside is approximately 1 inch deep. The interior is lined with orange/red felt. Similar boxes are found across the Middle East and North Africa, including Morocco, Syria, and Egypt. Please examine the photos for several damages to the box. However, this box still looks great even with its flaws. 11-06063
