This is a butter crock / butter bell.

A butter crock / butter bell is a ceramic container used to keep butter soft at room temperature.
To use it, fill the lid with butter, add about 1/3 water to the base, and close the lid.
The water creates a seal, preventing the butter from coming into contact with air and thus preventing oxidation.
This allows the butter to maintain a spreadable softness without refrigeration.

No cracks, chips, or crazing.
There are signs of washing, but it is unclear if it has been used.
There is water scale on the lid.
There are scratches on the bottom from the manufacturing process, and deterioration and discoloration on the unglazed part inside the lid.

The box is heavily damaged, so please consider it part of the packaging.


Butter that spreads without refrigeration.
How to use:
Fill the lid with one stick of butter or margarine.
Fill the pot with water up to 1/3 and close the lid.
Natural evaporation keeps the butter firm.
