From early morning, fish seemed to be feeding on something drifting, with ripples appearing everywhere, hinting at a great catch. We started by casting small CDC midge imitations #18, micro caddis #20, and stretch body CDC thorax duns #18. We had consecutive hits from the very first cast. As expected, all the dry flies we cast resulted in continuous bites. By 10 AM, we had caught 86 fish. Until we finished fishing, we caught 41 more with soft flies and bead head sinking flies, for a total of 127 fish. It was one of those days unique to stocked fisheries where you can have an exceptional catch several times a year. Even with such a great catch, fish can start to ignore flies, so frequently changing your flies is key to increasing your catch.
