📕 Fire and Brimstone: North Butte Mining Disaster of 1917 [Punke] Western Decor

Vintage Fire and Brimstone: The North Butte Mining Disaster of 1917, by Michael Punke, published by Hyperion in 2006, Western decor book. It measures 5 1/4” wide by 8” tall. 338 pages. “The worst hard-rock mining disaster in American history began just before midnight on June 8, 1917. Sparked by a tragic accident more than 2000 feet below ground, a fire in the Granite Mountain shaft spewed, flames, smoke, and poisonous gas through a labyrinth of underground tunnels. Within an hour, more than 400 men would be locked in a battle to survive. Within three days, 163 of them would be dead. As the miners fought below ground, their families waited in anguish above, united in the prayer that their sons, fathers, and husbands might make it home. . . . Author Michael Punke masterly weaves the events of 1917 into a narrative both remarkable for its historical sense and compelling in its contemporary relevance.” -back cover New to Poshmark?
