Armor Helmet Yoroi Katchu Box Edo Period Nagamochi Chest
Armor, Samurai Armor, Armor Box, Antique, Edo Period Item, Nagamochi, Lacquer Box
The surface is lacquered, and I believe this box was used by someone of high status to store armor and helmets.
Boxes of this shape appear to have been used during the Sankin-kotai (alternate attendance) system, and it seems they were transported by passing a pole through the handle fittings.
Please check the photos for dimensions.
As this is an old item, fittings on the bottom are missing in two places (refer to photos No. 10 and 11).
The nail that secured the fitting in photo No. 15 came loose, causing the fitting to lift. I have temporarily secured it with a nail I had on hand.
Please check the photos.
I believe this item was actually used.
There is rust on the fittings due to age, cracks at the corners, scuff marks, peeling lacquer, and many other imperfections that may not be fully captured in the photos.
This is a long-term storage item.
We appreciate your understanding.
Additionally, there are stains and color fading due to long-term storage.
We appreciate your understanding.
