Description
Delicate European antique handmade needlework & bobbin lace beautiful embroidery & lace doily, approx. φ26.5cm.

A piece created by mixing various bobbin lace techniques, mainly Valenciennes lace, around sheer cotton organdy.

The bobbin lace tape creates elephant motifs of flowers, and is woven with very delicate, fine threads like a honeycomb, connecting them. It can also be called Normandy lace.

Within one of the gauze frames, as thin as mist, is a meticulously embroidered monogram of R and possibly D below it, hand-embroidered.

Above the R is an aristocratic fleur-de-lis crest, suggesting it may have belonged to nobility.

Belgian bobbin lace tape, likely from Bruges, surrounds the monogram.

The colors are gentle, soft, and clean: white, ivory, and ecru.

The fabric is a sheer, fine-thread (linen, cotton) lawn-like material. The bobbin lace is also soft and fluffy, with a flowing texture.

There is one meticulously mended spot within a gauze frame. (At the 10 o'clock position in the second image).

There are no scratches, breaks, or stains, and I believe it is in very good condition. However, please understand the nature of handmade items that have passed through time and hands, and forgive any oversight of minor imperfections.

A piece lovingly woven with parts, further connected and finished by women's hands.

The final image shows it photographed alongside antique lace that will be newly listed soon. It is for reference regarding texture, color, and technique differences.

Place under jewelry, objets d'art, dolls, bisque dolls, vases, or flower vases.
Drape from shelves, or place on tables, chests, cabinets, at entrances, or in alcoves.
