This is a Hon-Kaga Yuzen Irotomesode in a calm old lilac color, featuring a single crest of *go-san no kiri* (Paulownia).
The signature is from Kobayashi Kiyomi, a Hon-Kaga Yuzen artist whose techniques meet the strict standards of the Kaga Dyeing Promotion Association.
Kaga Yuzen began with the unique dyeing techniques of the Kaga region, with Miyazai Yuzensai introducing new patterns during the Kyōhō era. Its characteristics include warm colors based on the five colors: indigo, madder red, ochre, grass green, and ancient purple, with a gradation applied from the outside to the inside, bringing flowers, birds, and the beauty of nature to life like a painting.
The gradation of natural colors, with delicate and lively expressions down to each petal and leaf, and the figures of peonies and friends, which evoke a refreshing breeze with their dynamic branches, are further enhanced by the exquisite texture with a unique sheen and subtle slubs, creating a beauty that is mistaken for the real thing the more you look...
There is some yellowing on the crest and slight dirt on the back and cuffs, but it is in such good condition that it can be called beautiful. This piece still has basting threads on the sleeves and hem.
