Snuké is the dark brown, extremely hard, and heavy core wood that appears in the core of old trees of the Japanese snowball bush (a broadleaf tree of the Hamamelidaceae family) that are 250-400 years or older. It has become extremely rare in recent years, and due to its substantial feel and beautiful wood grain, it is popular as a high-quality gift and for display, and is used for martial arts equipment such as wooden swords, furniture, and musical instruments.
